The love affair between Barack Obama and the entertainment sector has been well documented throughout the election and has only increased with his historic victory on Tuesday. We’ve had a barrage of songs: Nas & Jay Electronica, Jay-Z, Common and a slew of other rappers with varying degrees of success. You can now add Carmelo Anthony to the fold. In celebration of Obama’s election as our 44th President; Carmelo said he was gonna put up 44 points against the Warriors.
Unfortunately, he forgot to confer with the Warriors on this and he didn’t get anywhere near 44. Instead he could only muster 28 points honoring Woodrow Wilson in the process, while playing with a depleted squad. AI was in Detroit. Chauncey Billups was on the bench awaiting a physical to be cleared to play, meaning Anthony Carter and Dahntay Jones were who he was depending on to get him the ball. Talk about going up against a stacked deck.
Word of advice ‘Melo: Keep the promises to yourself before the game. Go out and see what happens. If you hit it, great. In the press conference afterward, you tell us about your tribute to Obama and it’s all good. If you don’t hit, then no one knows and you live to see another day. If you don’t believe me ask your boy Gilbert next time you get a chance.
Oh yeah, losing the game on top of the promise has to be the cherry on top right?
Good thing Amare and Tony had your back.
