“Shawty Wanna Ride With Me?” – Jason Richardson Gets Clocked Speeding 55 MPH Over The Limit

By 02.17.09

With his son in the car. Unrestrained in the car seat. Maybe son was perturbed he didn’t make the All-Star team?

ESPN reports — A Scottsdale police officer first saw Richardson driving 67 mph in a 40 mph zone Sunday night and followed him, police said Monday. That’s when the officer clocked him at 90 mph in a 35 mph zone and pulled him over. The officer saw Richardson’s son in the back seat of the car and that he was not in a child seat. Richardson was arrested and charged with reckless driving, excessive speeding and failure to use a child seat. He was released from jail after a few hours.

Richardson also released a statement:

“I just want to apologize to everybody — my teammates, my family, especially my fiancee,” he said. “It’s a tough time for me. I’ve been questioned as a basketball player, questioned as a person, but my fatherhood in question is tough, because I try to be the best father I can be, and try to keep my kids out of harm’s way.”

My question is how in the hell do you do 90 mph in a 35? Isn’t there speedbumps or bends in the road to prevent acts of DMX’ing? You would think every street in Arizona would be Earl-proof by now.

Any guesses on what was playing in the radio?

Jada’s “Death Wish?”

Speed Demon?”

Or I’m willing to bet he got caught up in reading Contra’s™ car post on his PDA and lost all bearing. After all, that 111K he lost after being suspended for a game would have a been a lovely down payment for that Aston Martin-77.

In other Phoenix Sun news…

Skeletor Terry Porter was fired as Suns’ head coach yesterday. Apparently, general manager Steve Kerr (pictured) grew weary of his incompetence as a leader, on and off the court.
