The internet is a gift and a curse when it comes to the consumption and creation of music. On one hand, it makes it so that the people who make it no longer have the financial prosperity that they once would attain in years past. On the other side of the argument, it means that the majority of the people working toward a musical career are in it for the love and not the money. One of the factors that make this evident is the amount of free material being released by lesser known artists just to get their music out there recently.
The latest offering to have come out with the free.99 price tag is a seventeen track beat tape put together by none other than Michigan native 14KT. With an obvious influence from the late J. Dilla, it would make sense that the tape was composed shortly after his untimely passing as a tribute to his work. Combining choppy yet smooth soul samples and heavy drum patterns, the project flows through without a hitch leaving the listener aching for more from the beatsmith’s arsenal. Considering this is a free release, I suggest all of you download it and experience the work for yourself so you too can get lost in 14KT’s beautiful world of melody and percussion.
