Song Of The Summer: Drake’s “Best I Ever Had”

By / 09.08.09

Chalk another one up for the Canadian as he’s got the song of the summer, at least according to Vulture’s list. The pop culture aficionados turned out a pretty well-rounded list of hits, even though I’d have to honestly list one of the two Black Eyed Peas tracks, either “I Got A Feeling” or “Boom Boom Pow,” as the “hottest” song for the summer of 2009. That’s especially if we’re talking hottest, which I translate as “most obtrusive.” Say what you will but both songs everywhere — commercials, radio, roller skating rinks.

Either way, their complete list left me wondering how in tune with music, specifically pop music, we really are. Me? I scored 70% on the top ten but only knew or was familiar with roughly seventeen of the forty-five songs they listed. Effectively, that’s a failing grade so I’ve decided to even further expand my musical palette so I too can officially be “devouring culture.”

1. Drake – “Best I Ever Had

2. Black Eyed Peas – “I Gotta Feeling

3. Black Eyed Peas – “Boom Boom Pow

4. Michael Jackson – “Billie Jean

5. Taylor Swift – “You Belong With Me

6. Young Money – “Every Girl

7. Cobra Starship – “Good Girls Go Bad

8. Dirty Projectors – “Stillness Is the Move

9. Jeremih – “Birthday Sex

10. Keri Hilson feat. Kanye West and Ne-Yo – “Knock You Down

You can see the full list @ Vulture. But I’m more interested in hearing how many songs you knew/recognized and what your song of the summer?
