Oh, the power of words, or pwr ov wrds if you’re speaking the Twitter language. Frustrated with his notoriously lousy franchise the Kansas City Chiefs – which definitely includes the 37-7 paddling given to them last Sunday by the San Diego Chargers – star running back Larry Johnson let loose on reporters asking for comment on his Twitter tirade against head coach Todd Haley.
Now there’s a golden (||)* next to the “let loose” portion, for he told a select member of the media “to get your faggot ass out of here.”
Obviously forced to play model citizen, the Chiefs suspended him indefinitely. And of course, the generic apology:
“First of all, I want to apologize to the fans of the Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of the NFL, Commissioner Goodell, the Chiefs organization, Coach Todd Haley, his staff, and my teammates for the words I used yesterday. I regret my actions. The words were used by me in frustration, and they were not appropriate. I did not intend to offend anyone, but that is no excuse for what I said.”
“I also want to apologize to all the kids who view athletes as role models. I was not a good role model yesterday and hopefully I can become a better role model. We all make mistakes, and the challenge is to learn from them. I will do my best to learn from this one as I move toward becoming a better person, teammate, and member of the Kansas City chiefs team and community.”
Yeah, yeah yeah. He wasn’t the first star athlete to drop F-bombs and he damn sure won’t be the last. Here’s where it gets interesting though. Despite his unheralded talents on the field, the Chiefs are still 1-6 going on 3-13. Johnson only needs 75 yards to become their all-time leading rusher. Say they want to be petty and/or keep the legacy glowing in Priest Holmes’ image, they could bench him for the rest on the season. What great Tweets will come from that malarkey.
Should he accept you…
