Chromeo – “Don’t Turn The Lights On”

Chromeo was not meant for the 21st century.

See, their succulent, saturated sound is so 1980’s that the two compounded opposites that compose the group – Dave-1 and P-Thugg – probably jacked some Libyans for their plutonium to make it all the way here to 2010 and drop a late-night dancehall delight like “Don’t Turn The Lights On.” From guitar riffs that could’ve been courtesy of Atlantic Starr to the biting bass-line that sounds straight off D-Train’s Greatest Hits, the second single off their third album Business Casual is such a throwback that a Member’s Only jacket might be required upon listening.

Mine is teal and says Beware on the front. I’ll be wearing it when I see this dynamic duo hotbox The Majestic Theatre in lovely Downtown Detroit on August 5th, as part of their first nationwide tour and, if my coins are correct, at Lollapalooza the follow night in Twista’s city (click here to see tour dates).
