Dark. Man. X.
The name sounds like the character of parodied rapper for a Ben Stiller movie at this point. But before there was Lil Wayne (as we know him now), Young Money Records and Auto-Tune, there was DMX, the Ruff Ryders and his growls and barks.
We’ve highlighted his spectacular breakout year before and now it’s VH1’s turn with their highly accredited Behind The Music series. In 1998, Earl Simmons single handedly created a paradigm shift for the culture, stripping it of the shiny suits and champagne bottles in exchange for muddy Timbs and Boones Farm. Of course, a nightmarish streak of erratic behavior and more arrests than every Baldwin brother combined unraveled the house that Dog built. Which is exactly why VH1 has come into play.
