Yeah, so what, I like R&B music. Shoot me.
There was a point in time years ago when the Jagged Edge/112 argument would get heated. Nowadays, the R&B game is all about self. Money is hard to come by and splitting checks four or five different ways is a slap in the face in today’s music industry and economy. That’s unfortunate, too. Rhythm and blues needs talented groups again to spice the scene up.
Jagged Edge, a far cry from the late ’90s, early 2000s days, have been releasing tracks here and there for the past few years – most of which have been underwhelming. However, I came across “My Baby” the other day and the scales tipped in their favor. Borrowing inspiration from Jodeci and Surface, the song, which will be found on the group’s upcoming album The Remedy, had me nodding my head to the feel of something they would have released years ago.
Before we get ahead of ourselves, however, this does not represent the return of “old school R&B,” but it is a nice listen. My only hope is that their ability to craft high quality ballads hasn’t totally left them. That’s what I’m waiting to hear.
