For those of you who didn’t get exactly what you wanted for Christmas, it’s not too late. The Scrooge McDuck turned Santa of Hip-Hop, Dr. Dre, has opened the vault and let loose another more highly coveted record for your listening pleasure. The unearthed song, “Syllables,” sounds a bit dated, hosting appearances from now ex-Aftermath soldier Stat Quo in addition to a quick verse from long-forgotten Ca$his, who’s surprisingly still signed to Interscope for purposes unknown. But the heavyweight headliners – 50, Hov, Dre, and Em – are the obvious main attractions. Marshall’s style is very obviously circa 2004, as he’s not using that double time flow or doing his pseudo irate Mike Singletary impersonation. But all joking aside, he does make some valid points regarding the age-old “what’s more important, the beat or the lyrics” debate.
