There was a point in time when I would have unabashedly vouched for Jayceon Taylor. About the last time I could say that was around 2008 when Obama was still a senator. Since then, Game has seen his career struggle to keep its head above water with one unfulfilled release date and non-impactful mixtape after another.
Admirably, that’s not prohibiting the former “West Coast savior” from pumping out new product to the public. Game and DJ Skee are hard at work on another mixtape entitled Purp & Patron with the self-indulgent “I’m A King” serving as the first look. When he proclaimed himself rap royalty on the unofficial remix of T.I.’s hit, I was there with him. This time, not so much. For damn near five and a half minutes, I was left wondering what the hell I was listening to. Was it an attempt to marginally reincarnate “Lollipop?” Your guess is as good as mine.
I want Game to succeed. I really do, but this isn’t the blueprint. Excuse me, redprint. Keep letting stuff like this leave the studio and The R.E.D. Album will eventually turn orange after years of deterioration. Someone lock buddy in the studio with Marsha Ambrosius.
