The first round of the playoffs saw a mix of upsets and last second heroics. Below is the breakdown of the highs and lows of the weekend’s Wild Card Playoffs.
Saints Vs. Seahawks
Pre-Game Chatter: The defending champs lucked out with what was dubbed a bye week against the 7-9 Seahawks. Drew Brees and company were easily expected to overcome Seattle and the Qwset Field crowd.
What Went Down: Brees and his receivers did their part, but the New Orleans defense evidently took the bye week chatter too seriously. The Saints made Matt Hasselbeck look like his vintage 2005 self in potentially his last game in Seattle. Hasselbeck threw four touchdowns as the ‘Hawks used a variety of misdirection and play action to fool the utterly inept New Orleans secondary. There was nothing tricky about the clinching run of Marshawn Lynch though.
Tracy Porter’s agent will be contacting YouTube and the NFL shortly to destroy all footage of Porter’s unfortunate tackle attempt. At least Saints fans give him a free pass for life.
The Saga Continues: The Saints go into the offseason looking to restore their runningbacks to health and in search of some safeties. Meanwhile, Seattle tries next week to bring their overall record to .500—and get into the NFC Championship.
