Adele’s raw, powerful voice draws emotion to the surface like a pump drawing oil from deep within the heart of the Earth. Her latest effort, 21, has recently been in heavy rotation for me, and it’s an exceptional piece of work. However, instead of the lush orchestration of her studio effort, this NPR Tiny Desk Concert showcases the British-born star in a totally different light. The minimal accompaniment and intimate setting allows Adele’s skill to rise to the forefront, and brings the impact of her songs into sharp clarity. There’s no magic going on in post-production here. With such casual flair that she doesn’t even take off her coat, Adele tears the house down with three simple songs.
