The Rock returning to the WWE has been the OutKast reunion album of wrestling. He’s been gone for seven years and a reappearance has seemed more like wishful thinking than anything else. But last night, wrestling got awesome again.
For the last few years, the WWE has turned into a PG product to cater to younger fans. The leader of that push has been the super-hero John Cena. Kids love him. The grown-ups hate him and miss The Rock. Last night, the latter came back to cut a 15 minute interview to hype his hosting Wrestlemania XXVII in a month. While doing so, he tore a new one into Cena, cursing and reminding us how awesome the Attitude era of wrestling was and why he’s one of the greatest sh*t talkers of all time. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand the whole time and created a truly unforgettable moment.
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s okay to like wrestling again.
