Rittz reminisces on “Piece of MInd,” painting a picture of life and struggle, pain and violence. His rapid-fire flow is in full effect throughout, but instead of obscuring his message, the verbal acrobatics only amplify the emotion he brings to this cut. Rittz breaks his thoughts, feelings and experiences down and walks the listener through them all. But at the end, all that’s left for him to do is to plead for peace as he states “My eyes are watered down, pouring with tears / I need peace.” Heartfelt words, put together with skill, spoken cold and solemn.
DJ Burn One, who we saw traveling to SXSW in Dominick Brady’s excellent piece, is behind the boards on this one. His instrumental should not be overlooked, a spine-tingling mix of synths and wailing vocals, that adds to and builds on the haunting feelings created by Rittz’s words.
The cut will be featured on The Glorification of Gangster soundtrack, a “compilation of exclusive originals, mash-ups, and cover songs that exemplify the media’s celebration of organized crime throughout culture and history” set to accompany a new piece of work together by graphic designer Alex Haldi, who previous clients include for Jay-Z, Rhianna, Big Boi, J. Cole and others. More information on the project and its accompanying soundtrack is available here.

As an extra, SMKA and 3 Little Digs got a handful of artists from SMKA’s The 808 Experiment: Vol 3 and hosted a cypher over some SMKA beats. The friendly Slumerican stars in the first video of the series, shot by 3 Little Digs at Tree Sounds Studio in Atlanta.
