Never to be outdone by the heads over at DC’s latest comic offering, Marvel Comics and Paramount Pictures have leaked the first trailer for 2012’s web-slinger reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man. Set to be officially shown to the world at Comic Con, the first official footage of the movie seems quite dreary, featuring The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield as tortured teenager Peter Parker, on a quest to lay some pipe on Emma Stone of Superbad fame. He’ll obviously fight a colorful bad guy along the way, but the trailer doesn’t specify who (although movie heads seem to think it’ll be the Lizard).
Spiderman 3 was a trainwreck, but I laughed when news broke that Marvel wanted to completely reboot the quintessential superhero franchise. They seemed to jump the gun a bit, and their actions painted a rather bizarre picture of how Hollywood works today. Still, one of my biggest gripes with the first film was that it spent very little time in high school, and given that Amazing promises to be more of an origin story, it’ll definitely be one of the more intriguing films of 2012.
