What Cash Money Records meant for my infatuation with Hip-Hop during the late ’90’s is paramount and something I will never take for granted. The Hot Boys’ lead single from 1999’s Guerilla Warfare, “We On Fire,” will forever be a classic due to its urban, choir-like proclamations and even distribution of the spotlight. It’s also one that’s fun to give a spin every once and awhile. Funny thing is, they were like the hood Backstreet Boys and I credit this video as the reason white tees will never go out of style.
It’s almost baffling to witness Juvenile in such an authoritarian role, but he was that dude and hands down my favorite member during this era. However, times change. Turk’s still locked up, B.G.’s looking at fed time, Mannie Fresh is running solo and Wayne and Baby are richer than they could have ever imagined. It’ll never be like this again though. And it’s probably better that way.
