Perhaps you’ve heard by now that my grad school alma mater, Georgetown University, was in the news today. The men’s basketball team squared off against the Bayi Rockets and, to make a long story much shorter, the game ended in a brawl that had athletes throwing chairs, fans heaving water bottles onto the court and Twitter in an uproar proclaiming the Hoyas took the ultimate L.
Truthfully, you can’t believe 65% of what’s said via tweets, but a picture like this speaks a billion words. Watch the video below and judge for yourself.
Here’s three things I took away from this footage.
1. Did you see how quick the Rockets squaded up? The subs obviously don’t know or don’t care about the leaving the bench rule. As soon as they saw the first punch, they were already at the free throw line ready to swing. And look closely around the 20 second at the excellent use of military strategy. They chased one of the Hoyas off by himself and went to work. This was like watching a pack of hyenas in the wild, real talk.
2. Best believe had this been Bubba Chuck’s Georgetown team, and at least one stool had been around, one of those Chinese players would have been short an eye.
3. If only my Hoyas were this aggressive in the past two NCAA tournaments…
The ironic twist in all this is that Georgetown plays their home games at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., which is right in the middle of Chinatown.
