Killa Kyleon wasn’t a rapper I really kept up with until I caught him in the #NT showcase at SXSW this year. The energy and authenticity he brings to the table is a warm refresher and his live performance engages the audience from start to finish. Though rapping over a legendary record like “Who Shot Ya” is no easy task Killa doesn’t go the slow Southern drawl way and does a pretty decent job of filling the instrumental with punch lines like “Martin Luther King day, y’all aggins history, Real aggins – 1, fake – 0, That’s a victory.”
Killa Kyleon’s Candy Paint and Texas Plates 2 mixtape drops September 1st. As a bonus, check out another cut from the tape, as the TX native goes over Young Jeezy’s standout joint “Ballin.’”
