Even in death, Bernie Mac is still the man in my book. I’m not going to take up a lot of time this weekend, but felt it was necessary to share one of my favorite Mac moments – his appearance on Def Comedy Jam during the ’90s. Bernie was a king of comedy long before he was anointed in the film and I like to believe this clip was proof why. Living in Chicago at the time of his passing, I distinctly remember the mood of the city, at least the Southside where I was, as an unshakeable feeling of depression. Buddy was idolized there and still is and I remember this standup receiving a lot of love in the barbershop I frequented.
If you don’t happen to find it funny, then I don’t know what to tell you. Everybody’s jokes aren’t for everybody. For me, however, The Mac Man is a legend. His physical isn’t here anymore, but the jokes have no expiration date (especially with YouTube around).
