As much as I love a fresh pair of sneakers, I love the backstories behind them just as much. The athletes, records and cultural landmarks make up part of the reason why certain releases gain value and remain coveted years after their release. This November, adidas will be dropping a New York Marathon collection, inspired by nine-time Marathon champion Grete Waitz. Waitz, who died of cancer this past April, won more NYC Marathon races than any other runner in history. In her honor, three models – the adiZero Adios 2 ($115), adiZero Boston 3 ($110) and Supernova Glide 4 ($115) – will be released in variations of red, white and navy blue, inspired by Waitz’ Norwegian homeland. 100% of the proceeds from the sales of the sneakers will go to AKTIV Against Cancer Foundation, founded by the runner in 1990.
All three will be releasing at the adidas Sport Performance Store in NYC and at adidas’ marathon booth on November 6th.
