Dave Chappelle’s Hateful Classic

By / 10.14.11

The Chappelle Show remains a staple of early 2000’s pop culture, a show that conjures both joyous and depressing memories because of its impact and untimely exit. Its ability to combine comedy with social commentary and sheer ignorance was both a beautiful aspect and something that would propel him into the upper echelons of the comedic pantheon. The program was defined by the success of the Clayton Bigsby, Prince, Wayne Brady and Rick James pieces. Yet, “The Player Hater’s Ball” could very well go down as my personal favorite from the entire series.

There’s really not much to say about the scene that hasn’t already been said over the years. Still just as funny as it was when it first aired during my high school days nearly a decade ago, this hateful ode is remembered by the moments it provided. From saying Diddy had dolphin teeth, to Rosie O’Donnell wears underwear with dick holes to refilling Buc Nasty’s mama’ dish, I challenge everyone to drink a glass of water and click play. If you’ve still got the water in your mouth by the end of the clip, congratulations. You’re a better person than me.

There hasn’t been top-notch negativity on TV like this since.

Bonus: And just because “I’d say something about your bitches, but it looks like you ate them” is one of the funniest lines ever uttered on television, watch the outtakes.
