You never hear of Hollywood contingents not having the funds to buy Christmas presents. All it takes is a familiar title with proven actors and the underlying feeling of “sequel” to get folks to brave the cold to make it theaters. On cue, we have the official trailer for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, the sequel to 2009’s Sherlock Holmes, with Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Jared Harris and whoever else that didn’t die from the first one. Because it’s good for business.
In all fairness, director Guy Ritchie is squeezing the most action possibly as one can out of a sully London setting in the late 1800s. If there was a record of dynamite, C4 or psychological warfare recorded in those times, they’re stuffing it in the film. The aforementioned Jared Harris plays Holmes’ most famous nemesis, Professor Moriarty, so that should bring out a new acute angle for at least twenty minutes of film time as well.
