Nike’s diggin’ in the crates again to bring back a classic model with revamped technology. I can still remember white boy Zeke walking into Ms. Myers 10th grade English class sporting the white, purple and royal colorway when they first dropped and zooming everybody. First of all, Zeke wasn’t known for his footwear and, second, he was the basketball manager, but he had the illest basketball shoe of everybody on the squad…for all of a few days.
Both the basketball and running versions retain everything from the original versions but a Free sole is added. The OG Huaraches were a gamechanger. The neoprene bootie comfort and fit created a snug feel that didn’t require laces, making the shoe feel like it was truly a thin extension of the foot. Nike Free outsole was created to accentuate the natural motion of a foot in movement so basically what we have here is a sneaker that’s minimal in restriction and as close to going barefoot as possible (unless you wear Rifts, of course). I’m okay with that but would’ve loved to see Lunarlon on the runner, only as a personal preference.
No set release date as of yet but the Huarache 2012 will be launching this November and additional colors will follow next year. Either way, sign me up for the runners already and, Nike, don’t forget to drop the Scream Green colorway.
