Amidst the controversy that is Drake having Serena bent over a tennis net (ALLEGEDLY!) causing Common to go all lyrical G.I. Joe – because I’m 89% sure that’s what this all boils down to – Drake, his leopard Northface* and Nike gloves kept it pushing by releasing the visual for “The Motto.” A tribute to the Bay Area, including appearances from E-40 and Mistah Fab, Drake and Young Money cohorts Lil Wayne and Tyga do their best to pay homage to the area that gave us Too Short, Spice 1 and, do remember, Tupac.
Regardless, the most respectable moment from the video is the inclusion of Mac Dre’s mother at the beginning. Could the video have been better? Of course it could have, but I’m no video director, so I’d just be criticizing without any backing. I would’ve liked to see them shoot it at an authentic Bay Area party though (which I hear are live as sh*t). But paying homage to a legend? I’ve never seen a problem with that.
P.S. - Am I the only who thinks Drake needs to drop a track the caliber of “9 A.M. In Dallas” again? You know, just to put everything on front street.
