Are you familiar with Azealia Banks? Well, if you’re not, you will be, as the baby-faced singer/MC has had quite a month and plans on a full-scale takeover for 2012.
After being awarded the top spot on NME’s annual Cool List, the 21-year-old Harlemite saw her eclectic “212″ single earn placement in both Pitchfork and NPR’s Top 100 Songs of 2011. The video for said song – originally debuted in early fall – is days away from a millions views. And last week, she got contacted by Kanye West and an A-List cosign from Gweneth Paltrow.
But, with that said, our introduction to your younger sister’s next favorite rapper obviously isn’t setting any trends. While I could serve up an anecdotal analysis on her fake-British accent, penchant for spitting about cooter-diving and overall unorthodox style, we’ll leave that critique up to you, the readers who hold the key to this pretty little girl’s longevity. Because, at this point, my opinion on Azealia is the same as my opinion on anyone else who’s skyrocketed to the top so quickly; an afterthought to the domino theory of success, which is well underway.
So, you tell me, how long do you plan on keeping her around?
