Kevin Durant Is Halfway Decent At This Basketball Thing

By / 12.30.11

Nearly two years ago, we dubbed Kevin Durant as the next big NBA superstar. Needless to say, he’s just that and with each passing game, he’s now preparing to kick down the door of the rarefied air that is mega-stardom. For those who missed the Thunder/Mavericks game last night, punish yourself for failing to witness an early season classic and its four critical points. One, the Mavericks showed some championship fight and damn near walked away with a win. Two, the last five minutes were playoff-intense. Three, Russell Westbrook finally broke out of a mini-slump in the closing moments of the game with an “And-1″ dunk and clutch jumper. And four, Kevin Durant – who finished with 30 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and two blocks – made sure Vince Carter enjoyed the world’s quickest 15 minutes of fame.

Following a clutch three pointer by the man once known as “Air Canada,” Durant, with ice water in his veins and blood in his eyes, nailed a three pointer off the inbounds pass to give the Thunder a 104-102 win.* You know, outside of that Western Conference finals loss, 2011 has been an awesome year for KDTrey5. He was the unofficial face of the league during the lockout and is now staking his claim as a top three player, if not arguably the best in the league. Period. I say arguably because…you know what, nevermind.

* – With a dope call from Marv Albert at that! Does it get any better than Marv calling a game winner? I’m pretty sure it doesn’t.
