Thanks to Ro and Rick at Burn Rubber for sending over their latest creation with New Balance, the “Blue Collar” MT580, one of two sneakers set to release as part of their “WORKFORCE Pack,” the Michigan retailer’s tribute to the people who form the backbone of their state’s auto industry and embodying the “Make Something From Nothing” motto attached to the release.
Instead of reinventing the wheel, Burn Rubber went back to what worked with their initial collaborative release with New Balance, reusing the MT580 model, arguably the best palette to work with, and sticking with NB’s signature grey but opting to go with a deep charcoal version for the “Blue Collar” edition. Composed of suede and mesh, the upper has few frills, which matches the aesthetic of both companies as well as the hard-nosed mindstate the sneakers were constructed to rep. Traces of white accent the toebox and tongue while the soles are done in gum, which rises up to encompass the ROLLBAR as well. From afar, there are no bells or whistles but a closer look shows that Burn Rubber branding can be found in the most subtle of spots – the anglets, lacelocks, insoles, a hang tag and complimentary dust bag – giving the kicks a defining level of character.
“Michigan, known as the home of the American auto industry represents the resiliency and perseverance of the American sprit. The Michigan WORKFORCE can be split into two distinct groups of people, the blue-collar and white-collar worker. Working together, these two groups have been responsible for many years of quality products that we rely on in our everyday lives.
“Burn Rubber has decided to use the men and women of the Michigan WORKFORCE as inspiration for their next sneaker project with New Balance. During the first quarter of 2012 New Balance and Burn Rubber will be releasing the Burn Rubber WORKFORCE pack. This pack will consisting of two sneakers will pay homage to the Blue-Collar and White-Collar workers of Michigan.”
The “Blue Collar” 580s will be available on Wednesday, February 1, while the “White Collar” version will follow in March. Check the detailed shots below then visit Workforce.BurnRubberDetroit.com for additional release details, a look at the accompanying apparel drop and more.
