Rockie Fresh – Driving 88 Mixtape

By 01.24.12

After knocking doors down with his prior effort, The Otherside, Rockie Fresh returns with the flux-capacitor-friendly follow-up, Driving 88. Carrying a forward-thinking theme and slew of spacey beats from all sort of suitors (including Blended Babies, The Kickdrums and in-house homie The Gift), this tape is fueled by a very productive past year that’s found the budding Windy City rapper touring the country for the first time, working with world-renown acts like Good Charlotte and Patrick Stump, but most importantly seeing out his speaking career first hand. With so much to touch on, the flow-flopping MC and DJ Ill-Will have thankfully made the recap available for free test-drives.

After a quick cruise around the block, my personal favorites are the corner-turning tracks “No Fear” and “So Long,” as well as the hazy self-empowering duet with Phil Ade, “Where I Wanna Be.” But, you’d be better off hopping in this Delorean for yourself if you really wanna hear the future of Chicago Hip-Hop.
