Who do you part ways with – the big-money, young player or the head coach? Betting men will always say the coach and that’s just what the Kings did today by firing head coach Paul Westphal after a well-publicizing falling out with DeMarcus Cousins. In the Kings’ press release, GM Geoff Petrie thanked the coach but admitted “the overall performance level of the team has not approached what we felt was reasonable to expect.” According to David Aldridge, the Maloof brothers felt the Cousins debacle was only part of the issue and that “none of the guys were playing to their potential.”
The Kings went 51-120 during Westphal’s tenure at the helm.
