Go ahead. Listen to Soul For Real’s “Candy Rain” and not sing along. I dare you. In fact, I triple dog dare you so you know it’s real. I heard this Friday night at a spot called Fishbowl and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. And not to sound stereotypical when I say this, but Black people love this record like it was the first song we ever had sex to. We’re not sure when we learned it, or how long it took, but everyone from the age of 22-40 knows the hook and opening verse. It’s kind of like “Happy Birthday.” You just know the lyrics.
And last but not least, before we get to the video, R.I.P. Heavy D.
