As Hip-Hop continues to evolve by gaining more and more influence from electronic music, the focus on lyricism seems to be lifting once again. But on “Strange Clouds (Remix),” ATL comes together and puts on a lyrical theater for the whole world to watch. In particular, B.o.B drops a verse that rightfully serves as middle finger to critics of the new age, almost as if to say that lyrics can still dazzle, even over beats as unorthodoxly Dubstep-eque as this one.
Happy February, folks. Bobby Ray’s merciless verbal assault should become the measuring standard against every other rapper who decides to take his music in the club happy, house/trance fusion direction. If their lyrics sound lazy and slow, thats probably because they are. And if artists justify their laziness by saying they’re just creating a new sound, don’t buy it. The two worlds can easily be mixed, and B.o.B will happily show you how to it.
