Lil Wayne Takes A Shot At The Throne

By 02.12.12

The clown show that can be (or perpetually is) Young Money Records moved their act to the Grammys yesterday with a party at Paramount Studios. Although this sounds like mundane stuff, a particular four-minute span towards the end of the party probably (and rightfully) caused a few in the audience to ask, “what the f**k?”

After congratulating every label member and himself, YMCMB’s cash cow, Lil Wayne, hinted that one of TSS’ favorite loose women, Christina Milian, might be signing to the label. This is a curious move by Weezy and co., as Ms. Milian hasn’t released an album in almost six years. Her previous work elicited some looks, but few are counting down the days until Milian ditches her current hiatus.

However, it was another dig at frequent feuding partner, Jay-Z, that concluded the YMCMB salutatory fest and might’ve been the biggest headscratcher (cue to the 3:50 mark). Breaking into a mumbled acapella freestyle, Tunechi waxed, “I met a bad red bone, I took the bitch home/ I asked her what she want to watch, she said surely not The Throne.” His remark isn’t questionable on its face (Wayne’s never been a particular fan of that little Hov lyric from “H.A.M.”), but it should have some questioning the tact because Jay’s obviously not wanting to reply.

So, Weezy, why bother? You’ve seen fellow partner Drake back away from a feud with Common, and Jay’s not entertaining your sparring. There hasn’t been a particular fondness for an engaged, big-name, on-wax feud in rap recently, so there’s no point in taking the pot shot. Genre pundits and comment sections will speculate what this means and when opposing parties will respond, but it takes two to tango and only one appears wanting to do the dance.

All it appears to be is sour grapes from Wayne’s end, as The Throne guys’ cultural omnipresence has begun to negate Weezy’s extraordinary album sales. Move on, man. Blue Ivy ensures that Jigga’s got enough shit to clean up over the next few years.
