While you may have witnessed Nas & DJ Premier with the Berklee Symphony Orchestra, you might not know where the concurring Re:Generation name is coming from. Well, the source of both is a new documentary which pairs together unlikely forces in music to create something fresh and the latest installment of this unique genre-crossing concept comes in the form of “A La Modeliste,” Mark Ronson’s flirtation with Jazz. Pairing up the UK DJ with legendary New Orleans drummer Zigaboo Modeliste for the beat, Erykah Badu on lead vocals, Trombone Shorty’s horns and the mighty Mos Def as MC, this collectively cool composite is an extremely fun-loving look into what out of the box ideas can produce.
If you’re also into the concept, the Grammys-sponsored flick just hit select theaters two days ago and features other pairings like Skrillex with rock & roll, Pretty Lights catering to Country and The Crystal Method dabbling in Motown-inspired R&B. The trailer can be seen below the video and will spike any level-headed music fan’s interest immediately.
