As you make your ascent towards success, it’s typical to lose some, so-called, friends along the way. Reaching the highest height, or falling to the lowest low, is probably the only foolproof way to find out who your real friends are. On “Frienemies” DC’s Kingpen Slim laments having to cut off opportunistic parasites, phonies and yes men/women. The wordplay on this one begs for repeat listens, but the content will have you checking your crew for weak links.
As a bonus, Slim hooks up with old friend Jim Jones for a scene-stealing verse on the Harlemite’s video for “Red Rum/Pussy.” The Uptown DC and Uptown NY connection seems to work well together.
