Ask a sample of basketball fans who they think will win it all this year and you’ll hear the usual suspects like OKC, Chicago and the South Beach Grill. No one outside Dallas thinks the Mavs will repeat and the Lake Show, while playing better ball as of late, are another long shot. That can’t be it, right? Well not if a wily point guard from France has anything to say about it.
Tony Parker, who’s been balling out of control, is pretty keen on the Spurs’ shot at grabbing the Larry O’Brien trophy. San Antonio’s been quiet as kept about their 2nd place standing in the West and 11-game winning streak a few months back. So let Parker tell it and maybe you’ll see the light.
“Our goal is to win a championship. Tim Duncan and I haven’t got a lot of time left. The Spurs made the right moves by signing Stephen Jackson, Boris Diaw and Patty Mills. We have a complete team now. We know we can beat everybody in the West, we proved it by beating OKC two times already. Winning another title is something we can do this year.”
Will the now or never feeling hit San Antonio like it struck Dallas or is Tony gone off that Dom Pérignon? Feel free to sound off while I try to picture the Thunder facing the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. I’m sure David Stern would get Tim Donaghy back in business for such an occasion.
