Few of us can afford to go to every festival at the drop of a hat; we have to pick and choose which events to drop money on. Fans of live hip-hop are going to want to pay attention to Openair 2012 because the Swiss Hip-Hop festival is absolutely drenched with big names. Headliners Drake, 50 Cent and Nas will be joined by “supporting” acts, from mainstream names like Rick Ross and Wiz Khalifa to more underground acts Jedi Mind Tricks and Dilated Peoples. It may be a bit of a tease advertising a music festival across the pond, but the July event features names sure to please any Hip-Hop fan.
An underlying story here, besides the fact that Sean Paul is being billed as headline-worthy (I don’t know, either; must be a European thing) is how Fiddy coexists with acts like Rick Ross and Nas. His beef with Rawse needs no further explanation, but don’t forget the shots fired at Nasir back on The Massacre’s ‘Piggy Bank.’ Time has been much kinder to both Rozay and Nas in the years since, so hopefully the issue is a non-issue.
The festival will be held July 6-8. Tickets can be purchased on the festival’s website.
