In our current rap landscape, it’s almost unheard of to charge fans for anything other than a studio album. Nevertheless, there will always be those hard-nosed hustlers who insist the quality on their projects are worth a fee, making fans pony up a few pennies if they really want the goods. Well, despite his infrequent output over the past few years, Chamillionaire is placing himself into that frugal grouping with his new Ammunition EP.
Despite the ticket and year gap between releases, the latest leak from Koopa might actually be worth your investment. Full of all original production and guests like Saigon, Doughbeezy & Marcus Manchild, this nine-track tape is basically just a short album from the H-Town Grammy winner. There are concept cuts (“You Gon Learn” & “Never Enough”), potential singles (“On My Way”) and even songs that leave you with the gas face (“Let’s Get That” Remix). Although relatively short, the project has enough cohesion to ensure a full play and pretty much lacks filler tracks altogether.
So, if you’re still wondering how Cham can justify charging for something you can currently stream on DatPiff, just know he’s not trying to jip you, but rather remind you that worthwhile music is a rare commodity these days and quality should cost. If shelling out funds is a no-go and you won’t head over to his website and cop, there are probably a hundred other releases that came out this week for you to fill up your hard-drive with.
Just know they probably won’t be this good.
