Josh Hamilton Makes History With Four Home Runs In One Game

By / 05.09.12

Josh Hamilton joined one of the burliest clubs in all of professional sports Tuesday night, as the Texas Rangers center-fielder clobbered four home runs against the Baltimore Orioles. He became the sixteenth player to do so in major league history, raising his AL-leading statistics in the process. Speaking on the accomplishment, Hamilton said, “It reminds you of when you’re in Little League and a little kid, and just the excitement and why we play the game. Things like that. You never know what can happen. It was just an absolute blessing.”

The start to Hamilton’s season has been incredible, punctuated by this performance. At this torrid rate, he’ll have hit 76 home runs by season’s end. And as far as the four home run milestone goes, there have been 21 perfect games pitched, as opposed to the aforementioned 16 four-dinger games. It’ll be interesting to see how this game energizes an impressive Rangers rangers squad. Yu Darvish has bolstered the team’s pitching, while Texas’ lineup runs much deeper than Hamilton. Two consecutive World Series losses makes the season’s expectations pretty obvious – anything less than a pennant will be a disappointment. A month-plus into the season, the Rangers, and Hamilton, seem more than ready to meet the challenge.
