GLC is one of the most consistently slept-on rappers in hip-hop. However, not age, fame or even the shadow of a former boss can stop the Ism Master from shining bright as ever on his latest release Cathedral.
After a relentless mixtape grind lined with random production furthered his movement, Gangsta L Crisis finally found the perfect sound to hone his chuuch on the move. Backed entirely by Blended Babies’ horn-tinged production and soulful serenades, the Windy City pimp sounds right at home over the bulk of this tape, which could very easily be an album. With a supporting cast of guests like Raheem DeVaughn, YelaWolf, Kids These Days, Corey Mo and a few specific singers to help preach the details, all of the enduring qualities that make GLC his money are put on perfect display throughout this project. However, while you may assume the man’s mack game would be prominent throughout the tape, that specific theme is actually limited to tracks like “Time Sex Money” and “Pimp You,” while more intrinsic tracks like “My Mella” and “Nation Piece” delve into an unpolished life behind the persona.
Eloquently put as always and more well-rounded than usual, this might be the best thing we’ve heard from G.O.O.D. Music cast-off to date. But, instead of taking our word for it, download the tape below and see for yourself.
