Passion Pit – “Take A Walk”

By 05.08.12

There aren’t many non-rap groups I genuinely get stoked to hear new material from, but Passion Pit is definitely one of them. Because of their often playful and elaborate production, the Massachusetts group has been a staple of any playlist I pick when needing to amp up my mood. That said, I’m pleased to share their first single in three years, “Take A Walk.”

Sonically scaled down a bit and but still invigorating as ever, this thumping taste of their upcoming album Gossamer seems a bit more focused on the lyrical content than their previous singles, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Carried by the angst of lead vocalist Michael Angelakos’ and his story of how much life has changed since his group was simply playing for pennies, he speaks on the difficulties success brings via a calloused tone that almost sounds as if he’s relieved to get the weight off his chest. And, unlike many artists’ feeble problems of dealing with side-chicks and how fame has changed their relationships, these are much more revealing, in a roundabout way that makes you genuinely root for the group’s successful comeback.

The album – which fittingly carries the same name as the heart-shaped monster from Looney Tunes – drops July 23.
