“Breaking Bad” Actor Aaron Paul’s Next Move

By 06.15.12

Nobody wants to be reminded that Breaking Bad is headed towards its last lap. News that series wunderkind Aaron Paul is scheduled to star in an HBO pilot does just that. Called The Missionary and produced by Mark Wahlberg, Paul’s latest sees the up-and-coming actor star as “a young American missionary… who becomes involved with the CIA,” according to Guardian. The late-’60s period piece has no set release day yet.

Considering the people pulling the strings here (Wahlberg will be joined by Stephen Levinson as producer; the two have previously worked on Entourage, How To Make It In America, Boardwalk Empire and In Treatment), any actor involved with such a project is guaranteed at least a multi-season run, with the potential to star in an iconic series. The fact that Paul is getting the nod here only increases anticipation. As his four-season turn as junkie-turned-meth all-star has shown, Paul is one of the best actors on television, blessed with an incredible emotional range. He was bound to star in something big once Breaking Bad concludes, and a show like Missionary, which has the DNA to be television’s next great drama, makes perfect sense.

And, while we’re here, consider this your reminder to catch up with Breaking Bad. Season five premiers in one month, on July 15th. Considering the show’s addictive nature, that’s more than enough time to watch every episode on Netflix.
