Nike keeps making moves in the digital realm and pushing sports and technology together. At E3 today, the company announced their partnership with Microsoft to release Nike+ Kinect Training for holiday 2012. The game blurs the line between personal training and gaming, fun and work by using the game interface to conduct workout sessions led by Nike Trainers with background experience working with pro athletes. With real-time feedback, Kinect Training can generate custom workouts to help players reach their goals. The game’s said to include a mobile app that keeps you motivated and on track for your next workout and sharing results with friends.
Much like the FuelBand, the game won’t replace a trainer and even visits to the gym, but it will make training a hell of a lot more fun and convenient. I’ve actually toyed around with my wife’s Nike Training Club app for “research purposes” and the workouts are complex and challenging enough to generate a burn. Assuming Nike+ Kinect works using similar elements, I already know one item I’ll be listing under the “For the family” category on the Christmas list.

“Whatever your fitness goal, “Nike+ Kinect Training” will give you the tools to get you there. Through the Kinect technology, the personal trainers within the experience can see how your body moves, assess your physical strengths and athleticism, identify areas for improvement, and create a personalized workout plan to help you achieve your personal best. With real-time feedback to make sure positions and movements are correct, the “Nike+ Kinect Training” custom program evolves as you do, helping you get fitter, faster and stronger.
“Nike+ Kinect Training’ gives everyone access to the same training we give professional athletes. It combines our unique understanding of the greatest athletes in the world with the amazing sensor technology of Kinect for Xbox 360,” said Stefan Olander, Nike vice president of Digital Sport. “‘Nike+ Kinect Training’ will make working out at home fun and inspiring, and with its seamless connection to two huge global communities in Xbox LIVE and Nike+, you’ll always find more motivation in someone to train with or challenge.”
