#MakeTheRules: Nike Celebrates Women In Sports With “Voices”

By / 06.23.12

Forty years ago today, the face of sports changed with the passing of Title IX, the legislation that leveled the playing field and made sports “anyone’s game.” To mark the anniversary, Nike’s releasing the mini-film “Voices” to celebrate athletes who helped break the mold and transcend boundaries through athletics. The film features the personal stories of four trailblazing athletes, spanning three generations: legendary distance runner Joan Benoit Samuelson, USA Boxing champ Marlen Esparza, WNBA stars Lisa Leslie and Diana Taurasi. *.

“Voices” reflects on some of the challenges these incredible athletes have faced on their journeys to greatness, and celebrates the passion, commitment and strength of female athletes everywhere to be the best at what they do. As the film progresses, the voices of these athletes are embraced by young girls who embody the spirit of women in sport of the future, adopting the same “play by your own rules” attitude that Lisa, Joan, Marlen and Diana exemplify. An attitude that will inspire the next generation of female athletes.

“The film launches on Nike Women Facebook on June 23 and will run on ESPN and ABC Family on June 23, and on ESPN June 26. Viewers can participate in the conversation on Nike Women Facebook and Twitter via #MAKETHERULES.”

* – And all four are Olympic gold medalists.
