With the 2012 Summer Olympics in London mere weeks away, now’s about as great a time as ever to remember when only a handful of athletes in America were more popular than Orenthal James Simpson. Here, in 1984, The Original Juiceman (Juicy J and OJ came later) takes upon the honor of carrying the Olympic torch for the summer games held in Los Angeles that year with the entire country cheering him on.
Life always manages to come full circle though. Exactly 10 years later, Simpson would again take to the Los Angeles streets this time running for his life in the back of a white Bronco going 35 miles per hour while the entire country watched in total disbelief.
