With the absence of the NBA on TV now, we all need programming to fill the gap so why not watch Prince: The Glory Years. The rock doc covers the purple one’s survival in the late ’70s that lead to his prolific rise in the ’80s and early ’90s, as told through anecdotes from the people who worked with Prince through each album. The backstories behind his brilliance, eccentricities and tales behind hits like “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” and “Little Red Corvette” are all in here. The only thing missed is the man himself (the doc is unauthorized), but maybe that’s part of what makes the film work. There’s fewer details omitted when there aren’t egos to placate.
