American Soccer Star, Sometime Rapper Clint Dempsey Transfers To Tottenham

By / 08.31.12

American international soccer player and infrequent rapper Clint Dempsey has secured a long-rumored move away from Fulham, landing at Tottenham just in time for the bulk of the 2012 campaign. Spurs offered up an estimated $9.5 million for the Texas native and, pending a medical, he’s all Spurs’. The move comes after Clint fell out of favor with Fulham’s current boss Martin Jol and a publicized courtship by fellow English Premier League side Liverpool.

Clap for Clint. His move to Spurs is another great stepping stone for his career. The team annually factors into the European picture (including this season’s Europa League), but isn’t too big to cast Dempsey aside if he goes through rough spells. His 23-goal 2011 campaign and scrappy attitude should warrant playing time even if he has to compete against a speedy Spurs midfield contingent.

Dempsey’s transfer concludes some hectic early season transfer activity between American soccer stars. Oguchi Onyewu (Málaga,) Carlos Bocanegra (Racing Santander) and Maurice Edu (Stoke City) also found new homes before the transfer window closed.

Also, Sports Illustrated soccer scribe Grant Wahl dropped a neat (if not sobering) bit of trivia on Twitter earlier which should pique the interest of all American soccer fans:
