The Dolphins did away with Chad Johnson, not even 24 hours after his arrest for domestic violence. At the moment, the team hasn’t released an official statement but we can assume that with a new coach (Joe Philbin) they just didn’t want to deal with the distractions or headaches associated with the media maelstrom that would accompany a domestic violence charge levied against a player who’s known for his outrageous personality. Not to mention, Johnson didn’t have the most productive season last year and his contract wasn’t guaranteed, meaning the Dolphins save $925,000 by cutting him before the regular season.
The six-time Pro Bowl receiver was released on $2,500 bond a day after his wife, Evelyn Lozada, accused him of head-butting her during an argument in front of their home. Johnson was charged with simple domestic battery, a misdemeanor. The couple’s barely been married a month and have a VH1 reality show in the works.
Coincidentally, Johnson recently joked with teammates on the first episode of Hard Knocks and made the seemingly offhand remark, “I promise I’m getting arrested while I’m off.”
Chad’s proven to be a man of his word.
