Bas – “Mula”

By 08.10.12

For Dreamville’s newest project-in-progress, Bas, we’ll play the numbers game when discussing the third offering from his forthcoming Quarter Water Raised Me Vol. II, “Mula.”

1. Produced by fellow Dreamvillain Ced, Bas tackles life as a fiend, but does so from a more conscious perspective. Lines like “Tryna fly my way to heaven but the turbulence is strong/My mama taught me right/My city taught me wrong…” help illustrate this picture. Simply living in a city/town – mine happens to be D.C. – and seeing individuals such as the one pictured above slumped on benches or sleep in alleys are as common as they are depressing. Yet, it’s also humbling to know each one of us are all one bad break from being in their shoes.

2. The song is one that can be appreciated on its own merit. However, if there is something I had to offer constructive criticism towards, it’d be the hook. It sort of threw the momentum of the song off he built in the first verse.

3. As a member of the Dreamville camp, don’t be surprised if Bas’ famous label mate shows up on his songs at some point in the future. You know, just some food for thought moving forward.
