RNC 2012: Ronald Reagan Hologram Replaced By Rambling Clint Eastwood & His Imaginary Friend

By 08.31.12

Without rattling off a laundry list of items, let’s just agree that 2012 is, more than anything else, weird. That trend was set to continue last Tuesday at the Republican National Convention. Per The Hollywood Report, the same technology that was used to bring Tupac back to life at Coachella was to be used to recreate former Republican president Ronald Reagan.

Tony Reynolds, founder of website akickincrowd.com and braintrust behind the idea, ultimately decided against it because he didn’t want to overshadow the GOP’s vice presidential decision. Probably a good look. Showing a Conservative Convention-goer the ghost of Reagan before any lengthy speech would be like giving a first grader a king size Hershey bar and expecting him to sit still all day. Those GOPers would have been buzzing, hard.

All hope for highlights from the convention were not lost as Clint Eastwood took the stage Thursday night to give a puzzling speech…partially delivered to an empty chair, which was supposed to be filled with President Barack Obama. For 12 minutes, Eastwood talked to his imaginary friend and carried on like a senile uncle, one deserving to be kept away like Soul Food’s Uncle Pete, and quickly became the subject of ridicule outside of the convention.

In response to Eastwood’s bit, the President tweeted a simple response: “This seat’s taken.”
