The Details: Nike SB Court Challenge

By / 08.31.12

The FedEx fairy usually makes a few stops per week but not every single one calls for documentation outside of my social networks. But one of the more recent ones, the Challenge Court by Nike SB, gets center stage for a three-point breakdown.

1. The nod from Nike SB, team rider Gino Iannucci and their decision to dig into the vault to bring back a slept-on model. They flipped the ’84 classic without altering it too much. The basic silhouette remains intact but Nike SB adds a Lunarlon sockliner/midsole, slimmed it down a bit and added the usual thickness to the tongue and interior. The Lunarlon’s definitely the bigger draw for me.

2. They’ll look much better once they’re worn and the suede picks up a few scuffs and dirt.

3. As a kid who came of age in the ’80s, John McEnroe’s as much an iconic figure to my personal Nike history as Bo is. The original “Rebel With A Cause” made many a sneaker famous, including the Challenge Courts and the Trainer 1, and was featured heavily in the era’s advertising onslaught.

Thanks to the homie for sending these over and including the handwritten note. Check out a few shots below as well as a recent ad spot featuring Gino and Johnny Mac. For additional details, visit NikeSkateboarding.com.
